The Egyptian Chamber
of Diving and Water Sports is dedicated to diving and marine services, and water
sports such as yacht and motor boat activities along Egypt's coastlines.
Responsible for registering companies whose services fall under the aquatic
domain, the Egyptian Chamber of Diving and Water Sports issues such companies
with a certified work permit.
The CDWS has its own General Assembly with some 591 representatives across the
country. 15 Board of Directors represent the General Assembly and a Secretary
General.
It used to be Red Sea
Association for Diving and Watersport but now it's new times, new names, and a
new chamber... Anyways... This is a quality control organ. They issue the cards
for guides who are allowed to work in the Red Sea with teaching and guiding
certified divers. In order for the coast guard to give the permission for a boat
to leave the harbour, weather it's a daily boat or a liveaboard, the guides and
instructors onboard must carry one of those cards. Now some dive centres are not
willing to make this investment in new guides every six months so they sign off
the cook and the mechanic as Dive Masters and then apply for the licence with
those names as guides on the boat. Most of the time the instructor/guide on the
boat is not even aware of this.
This is a good thing. We want the
dive industry to keep up the quality and safety.
