Born 1961 in the
Netherlands where Dray studied and thought art. He started photographing with the Canon A1 a
semi-professional film SLR camera, shooting images on his trips to Nepal,
Thailand, India and Egypt. He started scuba diving in 1998 and picked up his
first under water digital camera in 2002. The first camera was a Canon Powershot
S40 point and shoot succeeded by the Canon Powershot S70. In 2006 he switched to
digital SLR; Nikon D80 in an Ikelite housing with 2 DS125 Ikelite strobes and in
2008 upgraded to the Nikon D300 with Hugyfot housing and Inon Z-240 strobes.
After working in Malaysia,
the Canary Islands, Thailand and the Philippines, he now works in Egypt for
Blueotwo liveaboards as a diving instructor/dive safari guide. On the boat he
conducts digital photoworkshops and an introduction to Adobe Photoshop CS3. He
is together with Jeroen van Vlierden the founder of
www.aqualifeimages.com
a
website dedicated to the marine life photos with contributors from all the
world. It’s purpose to display as many different marine life species as possible. Dray is married to Karin. They met in Malaysia while working on
Perhentian Island and married in Thailand on Phi Phi Island. Karin is a
dedicated videographer.
Two of his articles were
published in the Dutch dive magazine: “Duikmagazine” covering macro marine life
in the Red Sea and the behaviour of divers on the oceanic white tip shark (carchahinus-longimanus)
named “Longimania.” For the Book series Top Trumps Sharks a number of shark
photos were submitted. He was runner-up in the annual photo contest of
www.underwaterphotography.com and winner of the DAN Europe photo
competition.
